Dr. Martens
Klaus Martens was a doctor in the German army during World War II. During a vacation in 1945, he breaks his ankle while skiing in the Bavarian Alps. Finding his standard army boots too uncomfortable for his injured foot, he designs enhancements with soft leather and a cushioned airbag made of recycled tires. This is how the famous "Dr. Maertens' shoes, which everyone today calls simply 'Doc'.
In the Rock Age with Doc's Shoes! "1.4.60" becomes a real icon for bands like Who, Clash, Cure, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Supporting iconic rock figures and young artists from the English and international scene, Dr. Martens is rapidly entering the fashion world. In the mid-1990s, 50% of sales were from women.
In 2000, for her 40th anniversary, Dr. Martens is teaming up with renowned fashion designers to produce unique models of the icon "1.4.60", personalized by Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Jean-Paul Gautier. 2006 was marked by the creation of "1.4.60" models, personalized with the character of Doc's spirit, such as Johnny Depp, John Galliano, Tony Regaconi, Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, Sonya Rickel. In 2007, an exclusive collection was launched in partnership with Japanese designer Yogi Yamamoto.
Dr. Martens continues to build long-term loyalty today, attracting new customers from all generations. Useful footwear from the beginning has become, over the decades, an emblem and identity of the social unity of people who today reject any restrictions in society.
